We welcome a commentating legend to today’s episode of Greatest Games, as Jonathan Wilson and Marcus Speller are joined by Peter Drury!
Peter joins us to discuss a chaotic match from Leeds’ Champions League campaign in 1992, as European’s elite competition was changing beyond previous recognition – and with the Heysel Ban ending a few years previously. Peter remembers his fervent excitement while covering for BBC Radio Leeds as Leeds began their European journey full of optimism from their league title victory the season before, and featured the likes of Gordon Strachan, Gary McAllister and Gary Speed in their side.
However, they were swept aside by an impressive Stuttgart side who scored three goals in a crazy half an hour, which signalled the beginning of a hugely difficult season.
